1 Kings 8 (vv. 22-53)

Solomon stands before the altar in front of the whole assembly, spreads out his hands toward heaven, and offers a long prayer of covenant appeal. He confesses that even the highest heavens cannot contain God, yet asks that this temple become the place where prayers are heard: prayers for justice, forgiveness, rain, deliverance, restoration after defeat, mercy in exile, and even the petitions of foreigners drawn by God’s great name. The scene captures the temple not merely as a monument, but as a meeting place of repentance, hope, and divine hearing.
