1 Kings 16 (vv. 23-28)

Omri secures the throne and purchases the hill of Samaria from Shemer. On that hill he builds a new city and names it Samaria, establishing a political center that will define the northern kingdom. Yet the chapter makes clear that even this achievement is overshadowed by his evil, for he surpasses previous kings in sin. The scene combines royal ambition, construction, and the ominous moral darkness beneath apparent success.
