1 Kings 15 (vv. 1-8)

Abijah, also called Abijam, is presented as king in Jerusalem during a time of spiritual compromise and constant war with Jeroboam of Israel. Though he sits on David’s throne in royal splendor, the scene should reflect inner division: his heart is not fully devoted to the LORD, yet for David’s sake the dynasty continues like a lamp still burning in Jerusalem. The image should capture both royal legitimacy and moral instability, with the tension of war looming in the background.
