1 John 5 (vv. 20-21)

A final dramatic image shows a believer standing at the threshold between truth and false worship. On one side, a dim chamber contains carved household idols of wood and metal, incense smoke, and flickering, uneasy light. On the other side, the believer turns away toward the open morning landscape, where clear light pours in and illuminates a path forward. The scene embodies John’s conclusion: the Son of God has come and given true understanding, and God’s children must turn from idols to remain in the true God and eternal life.

마지막의 극적인 장면은 한 신자가 진리와 거짓 예배 사이의 문턱에 서 있는 모습을 보여 준다. 한쪽에는 나무와 금속으로 만든 가정용 우상들, 피어오르는 향 연기, 불안하게 흔들리는 희미한 빛이 있는 어두운 방이 있다. 다른 쪽에서는 그 신자가 그 우상들을 등지고 탁 트인 아침 풍경을 향해 돌아서며, 맑은 빛이 쏟아져 들어와 앞으로의 길을 비춘다. 이 장면은 하나님의 아들이 오셔서 참된 깨달음을 주셨고, 하나님의 자녀들은 우상을 떠나 참 하나님과 영생 안에 머물러야 한다는 요한의 결론을 형상화한다.
