1 Corinthians 7 (vv. 29-31)

Paul’s urgent perspective on time is rendered in a symbolic urban scene where ordinary human experiences unfold at once: a married couple, a mourner, a joyful merchant, and a buyer in the marketplace. Yet all appear transient, as if their activities are momentary against a fading horizon and changing light. The image captures the apostle’s call to live in the world without becoming absorbed by it, emphasizing the temporary nature of earthly attachments.

시간이 짧다는 바울의 긴박한 시각은 상징적인 도시 장면으로 표현되며, 그 안에는 결혼한 부부, 슬퍼하는 사람, 기뻐하는 상인, 시장에서 물건을 사는 사람이 동시에 등장한다. 그러나 그들의 모든 행동은 사라져 가는 지평선과 변해 가는 빛 앞에서 잠시 스쳐 지나가는 것처럼 보인다. 이 이미지는 세상 속에 살되 세상에 사로잡히지 말라는 사도의 권면과, 땅의 집착이 덧없다는 사실을 강조한다.
