1 Corinthians 12 (vv. 15-26)

Paul's body metaphor becomes a dramatic symbolic tableau. Members of the community are posed to represent different body parts: a worker's feet dusty from travel, hands busy in service, an alert eye, a listening ear, and a bowed figure representing a weaker or less honored member. Rather than rejecting one another, the stronger and more visible members bend down to clothe, lift, and honor the overlooked person. The scene captures the heart of the passage: no part can say, 'I don't need you,' and when one suffers, all suffer together; when one is honored, all rejoice together.

바울의 몸의 비유가 극적인 상징적 장면으로 펼쳐진다. 공동체의 구성원들은 서로 다른 신체 부위를 나타내도록 배치된다. 여행의 먼지가 묻은 발, 섬김으로 분주한 손, 깨어 있는 눈, 귀 기울이는 귀, 그리고 약하거나 덜 귀하게 여겨지는 지체를 상징하는 고개 숙인 인물이 등장한다. 그러나 더 강하고 눈에 띄는 지체들은 그를 배척하지 않고 몸을 굽혀 옷을 입혀 주고 일으켜 세우며 존중한다. 이 장면은 '나는 네가 필요 없다'라고 말할 수 없으며, 한 지체가 고통받으면 모두가 함께 고통받고, 한 지체가 영광을 얻으면 모두가 함께 기뻐한다는 본문의 핵심을 담아낸다.
