1 Chronicles 14 (vv. 13-17)

When the Philistines raid again, David once more seeks God and receives a different strategy: circle around them and wait near the poplar trees. At the sound of marching in the treetops, David is to advance, for God has gone before him. The scene captures the stillness before movement, as David and his men listen beneath wind-stirred branches, then surge forward in obedient confidence, leading to victory from Gibeon to Gezer and spreading David’s fame among the nations.

블레셋 사람들이 다시 침략하자 다윗은 또다시 하나님께 묻고, 이번에는 다른 전략을 받는다. 곧장 올라가지 말고 돌아가서 뽕나무 앞에서 기다리라는 것이다. 나무 꼭대기에서 행군하는 소리가 들리면 하나님께서 앞서 나가신 것이니 진격하라는 말씀이다. 이 장면은 움직임 직전의 정적을 담아낸다. 다윗과 그의 군사들은 바람에 흔들리는 가지 아래서 귀 기울여 듣고, 이어 순종의 확신으로 돌진한다. 그 결과 기브온에서 게셀까지 승리가 이어지고, 다윗의 명성은 여러 나라에 퍼져 나간다.
